Meggera sat on one of the stone benches of the courtyard. It was one of her usual spots, sheltered from the elements and shaded most hours from the sun except the late afternoon. She sat as she usually did, her back against the wall and her legs stretched out across most of the bench with her bag resting on the floor and her sketchbook in her lap. She had ditched her reading glasses, having finished reading her novel about an hour ago and had moved on to sketching the archway leading into the school. She enjoyed drawing the slightly weathered brickwork of the castle and had sketched various parts of it over her years at school.
Luckily there was no one leaning in the archway today so she could get a clear picture, unlike yesterday. There had been a few third years hanging around after classes were over so her sketch had a few holes in it. Instead of filling them in she just started fresh today. The lighting was different anyways so it might look a little odd. Meggera looked up from her work of shading the inner rim of the arch to see a group walking through, probably heading to the lake by the look of them. Why they would want to try to swim in the lake in this cold weather was beyond her understanding, but if they all caught colds perhaps they wouldn't be so keen to try again. She was about to look back down at her drawing when a familiar face caught her eye.
“Jari, over here.” she called lightly over the voices of the merry group that had just passed. He had been oddly secluded since term started. Somewhat understandable from what she heard about his uncle dieing, but it was still odd.
