Moving to the forest, Fharl carried a sack over his withers in a harness, keeping his hands free as normal. Over one shoulder he had his quiver and arrows, the long knife in the harness belt itself across his chest. He trotted at the moment, seeing no reason to delay, but as he got to the edge of the forest he slowed, alert for any signs of creatures where they should not be. While he did not expect trouble, there was a small war between the Centaurs and the Acromantula currently, with some skirmishes between the werewolves and the trolls as well and though it was going on a good distance from the school's actual grounds, he was alert for spillover. After the battle of Hogwarts he had been told a good amount of extermination against those monster spiders taking place from several groups to force their numbers down to more reasonable numbers.
Apparently the centaurs considered them enough threat they were worth knocking back down some again. Why the few werewolves in the forest (who were quite a long distance from the castle far away) had decided to use their moon cycle to draw the trolls into it with the spiders he wasn't sure, but it certainly was making things entertaining deep in the forest! As he got to the classroom area he passed it farther in to a second clearing where he made several sounds with his hands at his mouth, a call to a certain group to get their attention. Hagrid had been rather intelligent to do the things he had, teaching different groups different calls and such as well as different locations for meeting them for checks and such. The man had always come across as someone off their rocker in his attitude towards certain treatments, but the animals of the forest respected him it seemed.
Or at least had learned they couldn't hurt him so easily. Fharl had to be a bit more careful.
Turning at the waist, he grabbed the bag and undid it from the holding harness before lowering it to the ground and making the call again. As the thestrals began to come across the clearing, he nodded and bowed slightly, getting the return from them as he began putting down apples, piles of grains, and when one nuzzled his arm he rubbed it's head with a smile and fed it some treats from his pocket -- which got several others coming closer. "All right, all right, there's plenty don't worry yourselves. You just work on your breakfast first, ladies and gentlemen, everyone will get the same amount." It took a few minutes to get them all treats and settled eating what he had brought as he continued to lay down piles. At some point he realized there was someone standing nearby just past the barrier (a very short little fence, mostly to visibly stop kids) and turned his head before saying "Yes? Did you need to speak to me?"
He noted the thestrals were not near that side as if on purpose. He should have noticed faster.
