Even though it was the winter season and not many people were at the quidditch pitch on the weekend, Scorpius sat in the stands with a book in his hands and two more in his lap. Most of them were his usual fare – fairytales that had been a part of muggle literature for years, primarily when they had to do with the knights of the round table or unrelated princesses that needed saving. There were fairy tales among witches and wizards, but knowing what they did the stories didn’t have quite the same charm to them. But along with these books, he had an odd book that he had found in the attic.
He couldn’t read the cover of it, which was strange because the writing inside was written clearly enough. The name inside was written in Japanese (which wasn’t a problem since he could read it) but not one that he recognized… It had obviously gone through several generations on his mother’s side, and she didn’t often talk about her family other than her grandfather. So… He kind of got the feeling that he shouldn’t be reading this. Not only did it belong to a family member that he probably wasn’t meant to know about but he also realized rather quickly that it had to do with alchemy… It wasn’t that it was a forbidden science exactly, but there were people he grew up with that thought it was the fool’s art.
So in the end, even though it was rather innocent, he felt that he was doing something wrong and had an overall shifty look about him. He attempted to read the alchemy book in front of a fairy tale book to keep others from noticing what he was doing but that wouldn’t work. Apparently people liked their books at least half a length longer than the ones that they had today… This was further evidenced by the shelves at the library.
He looked down when something fell out of the pages. He didn’t understand what this meant either. It looked more like a potions recipe than anything else, though he wasn’t sure what alchemy was exactly. He ended up tucking the paper back into the book and setting it aside, underneath some of the other books.
He wondered, quite suddenly, whether or not that Ravenclaw girl would come by here today. Before now he hadn’t really thought about her unless she was there, but… It was one of those days where he was actually hoping for company. He needed to distract himself, and maybe he could polish his social skills a little bit.
