There was a small smile on his usually solemn face as he watched over the younger students that were running around, and playing in the snow. His hands were shoved inside of the pocket of his winter coat, and his warm brown eyes were filled with a kind of warm amusement. He loved children, loved watching over them as they played their numerous little games, and while the ones here at Hogwarts were not as small as the ones that he was used to watching back on the Reservation, he still found a great amount of amusement in watching them. They were so ignorant in the ways of the world, they were still so pure. Still so innocent, just like the beautiful snow that gently fell around them.
Kenai longed to help preserve that innocence, longed to keep the children as pure for as long as was humanly possible. So he watched over them as they played, making sure that no problems broke out amongst the children, and making sure that nothing even came close to harming those that were under his watch. He had been doing that for as long as he could remember, and because he had always been so big for his age,( and so strong that most chose to avoid him, scared of angering the surprisingly gentle giant in one way or another.) no one dared to question him, something that secretly made him happy.
He did not need people causing trouble for him or the children. Without him, they would be sitting targets. It would be easy for bullies, and the cruelty of the world to go and corrupt them slowly, one by one. Without him that innocence, that kindness would be lost. This was not to say that Kenai was not completely selfless, not at all. He had a very good reason for keeping all of the ones that he protected in his life close to him. He desired their company, their very presence.
Kenai was a very lonely, and independent person by nature. The only ones that chose to approach him, were those who were completely untouched by the cruelty of the world. Those who were completely kind, and gentle. Those who did not judge him. Mainly those who were first, second, and sometimes even third years. There were of course, some exceptions. He knew some fourth, fifth, and even some of his fellow sixth years that still referred to him as their "Brother Bear."
" Brother Bear!!"
He was knocked out of his thoughts when he heard a voice call him, knocking him out of his thoughts. His warm brown eyes looked down to see the impatient expression of the younger female, and he couldn't help but smile.
" Yes, little one?"
His voice was so deep, and rich that it sounded as if it came from deep inside of his chest. It was so easy to see why so many had people nicknamed him " Bear."
" Come and join in our game, you look so bored standing there by yourself!"
With that said, the first year began to tug him after her eager to get back to their game, but determined to not leave Kenai by himself. A weak smile made it's way across his face as she tugged him towards them. They were having a snowball fight, and the idea uneased him greatly. He did not want to risk hurting one of the kids by playing with them, but at the same time he also did not just want to stand there getting pelted by snowballs thrown by the younger students. His eyes closed and a sigh left his lips, wishing for nothing more then someone to come and give him an excuse to not play.
