How could he have ever thought that it would ever be okay for him to move on knowing what it was that he knew, feeling the things that he felt and owing a debt that he had tried for the past sixteen years to repay to the ones that he had let down, the ones that he had disappointed and the ones that his slowness, his hesitance had cost them their very lives. He was a selfish man, a monster in every single definition of that horrid word and as he stumbled quietly through the dark night, with no destination planned ahead in his mind. His heart beat painfully inside of his chest, aching in the absolute worst of ways and the darkness that he tried so hard to repress was slowly awakening, urging him to let his pain, his anger and his despair loose on the foolish population. Destroy the bigots, the intolerable, the ones that had isolated him. Release the beast that lay dormant within him and allow himself to feel free for even just a moment. Allow himself to run away from the burden of his heartache and fall into a sweet dream, one that he would never have to wake from if he so chose.
His dark eyes began to fall heavy, almost hypnotized by the sinfully sweet words that were whispered into his ears by the monster that lay within. Promises of forgiveness, of sweet sleep and of being reunited with the two people that he wanted more than anything else to see again. He could almost see their faces, feel the warmth of their smiles and hear the beautiful duet of their combined laughter. He could almost see those warm eyes and could almost feel their comforting embrace wash over his trembling form. He was so close to seeing them again.
So close.
He had almost given into that dreadful beast when the image of the two people that he still needed to save, to protect, flashed through his mind. The tiny faces of his beloved niece and nephew as they stared up at him with that same adoration that they had once held for him. They had once idolized him, calling him their hero and here he was, almost giving into the darkness that plagued his heart the way that so many others of his family had done before him. He had almost become what it was that his grandfather had wanted him to be, a level of life that he had always promised he would never lower himself to. He had almost won. He had almost gotten his way for once, something that angered him more than anything else. With a burst of strength, he silenced the dark voice within his heart, silencing the whispers and preventing them from speaking any longer.
He winced as pain shot through his body and gasped as he fought to breathe, his lungs consticting and aching with the effort of trying to force oxygen into his lungs so that he would be able to breathe. The part of him that was dark, the evil part of his soul was furious with being denied its release and so it's destructive rage was taken out on his body, planning to end him then and there if it managed to get it's way and yet, Sebastian would not give up. With the last of his strength, he forced himself to apparate to a part of the city that he knew he would be likely to be found by someone, his mind praying that whoever it was that found him was not a muggle and would know where it was that he needed to be taken to. The man stumbled upon touching solid ground and before he knew it, his mind went blank, the world around him turning dark as his eyes fell closed and his body connecting roughly with the ground with a loud thud.
Now to play the waiting game.
