How long had he been stuck in this seemingly endless state of tireless contemplation? Fifty years? A hundred? He honestly did not know and yet as he stared up at the cloudy sky with a gaze that clearly reflected the pensive nature that he was so endlessly plagued with, his thoughts shifted as they always did on days like this. Unwelcome thoughts filled his mind, thoughts about his past and thoughts about his life in Japan, though perhaps the most unwelcome thoughts, were thoughts of him. The user. The traitor. Everything that he absolutely despised in a person and yet every so often, on days such as these ones, his thoughts would shift to the one that he had so foolishly allowed himself to love for reasons that were unknown to him. Perhaps it was a warning, a sign that he needed to leave Japan and start anew somewhere else, to make new memories in a different setting with new people surrounding him. At the thought, a scoff left his lips, his eyes rolling slightly at that foolishly optimistic thought. ' Even if you were to move, it would be no different;' the logical part of his mind told him.
'Mortals are all the same, no matter where you try to run to, you will face the same problems.' At the depressing thought, he reached into his pocket, pulling out a small carton of cigerettes that he usually kept on him for times such as these. While he did not smoke often, the small rush of calmness that he felt from the nicotine was welcome in the gloomy atmosphere and as he blew out the first puff of smoke, watching as it drifted upwards before getting lost in the cloudy sky. Briefly his thoughts returned to the one that he did not want to think about and a bitter almost cold laughter filled the air with its beautiful sound.
" Still can't leave me alone to live my life, can you Teru? It's been over a hundred years and yet you continue to mock me with your invisible presence. Why? What good does it do you to not let me forget?" Silence as he drew in more of that toxic smoke into his lungs before releasing another frustrated blow of that smoke. " It's not as though you ever truly loved me. So why bother me in such an annoying way? I would have never guessed that you would continue to haunt me from beyond the grave. Leave me alone." Perhaps that had been the wrong termonolgy to use. Lord save him if he ever turned out to be a ghost, he might just save himself the endless years of tourment that he would endure at his sadistic former fledgling's ghostly hands and just take a walk in the sun it end it all and put himself out of all of his misery. Perhaps he would do such a thing now. Yes, it sounded like a nice way to escape from this suffocating world and all of the idiots that inhabited it and for a moment those thoughts were chased out of his head by another thought, one that troubled him greatly as soon as he had it. These thoughts of death were unlike him, could it be that Teru truly did have some sort of pull, some sort of controll over him from beyond the grave? Or was it simply that he was beginning to realize that without him, there truly was no reason for him to be here.
It was a frightening thought, one that he was immediately glad to be rid of when a scent filled the air and distracted him completely. The scent was one that belonged to a female and it was something that drew him in for while she had a scent that was warm and tropical there was something more...intriguing about that scent. It had a layer of depth that he could not put his finger on and as curiosity overwhelmed him, he dropped his cigerette to the ground, stubbing it out with the heel of his boot before walking off following that scent. Determined to sate his curiosity.
And perhaps even his hunger.
