------------------------------It was the afternoon. It was warm enough for the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to face the weather without jackets or robes for extra warmth. Because of the fact that all the classes were out for that day the fourteen year old wasted no time heading down to the dungeons to find the Hufflepuff Common Room to get to his dormitory in order to change. He changed out of his robes rather quickly and grabbed an jacket that he could zip up and hide his ferret inside if he needed to. He walked to the side of his bed and lifted up the ferret's cage door and let his little friend jump out and climb up his arm.[/white]
The fourteen year old, Stuart Shieldheart had spent a great deal of time with his ferret. He'd take his ferret out to to the grounds and play with it, let it run around, or just hold it all day. He had his best friend since he was nine years old. His ferret, Minnie was well trained and usually well behaved, hence why he took it everywhere. He felt comfortable with his pet around. When alone it was one of the few times he would speak while writing. He was nervous to speak in his dorm room, so he had decided to go up to the third floor of the castle and enter the Clock Tower's stairway.
He climbed to the top of the stairway with his backpack and his ferret to find himself alone at the top. Though the gears made a repetitive ticking sound, it was not loud enough to annoy him. It was a place where he could get a peace of mind when it came to studying. He slid off his backpack and dropped it to the ground. He sat next to his backpack and looked out the glass windows of the tower to observe the massive grounds of Hogwarts. Sometimes he had wondered if it was worth staying at the school. Over the past few years the school has begun to grow on him. Every summer at home he begged to be pulled out and home-schooled. But, now, he was starting to get used to the place and more familiar with it. He had figured out how to hide and how to get away. Now that I think about it... I might miss this place.
Though he had difficulty talking, he wasn't completely mute. A few can get him to speak up, though, he gets extremely nervous in class that some professors just hold him afterwords to speak to him alone. He refused to give any type of oral report and has had to deal with a few detentions over his refusal. But, people were beginning to see him as a familiar site. He was the type of boy that was always there, within the corner of one's eyes, but, was quiet. If he were to disappear someone would wonder where the weird ferret loving quiet kid went off to.
After a few moments of looking out through the glass window Stuart opened his backpack and pulled out a book he was reading for his class in Arithmancy. His mother had sent him a book a few mornings ago to help him get through some levels of Arithmancy he found hard to understand. He was happy to get it, he did struggle sometimes but eventually understood things. But, he knew he was nowhere as good as his genius mathematical genius mother. He was about a fifth of the way through the book as he hadn't spent much time reading it as of late. The book was a lower priority over his other homework. But, at the current time in the Clock Tower it became a suitable time to read the book. Why do people think I'll be like my mom? I'm not as good as her! I don't want to be a bath nerd... I want to be an auror!
Minnie, his pet ferret circled around him and ended up laying down next to his backpack taking a nap. He stroked his pet as he read the book and leaned back against the wall. He was content for a few moments until he had heard footsteps coming up the very tower he walked up ten minutes before. He froze and looked at his pet and opened his mouth to whisper a word. But, Minnie was fast asleep he decided not to wake his ferret. He sat still his eyes now glued at the entrance of the stairwell. He stopped petting his ferret and sat down his book and instinctively grabbed his journal from his backpack.
He reached into the top of the backpack and pulled one of the pens loose from the straps. He sat it down at his side along with the journal, awaiting just in case he had a need to use them. All he could do was wait.------------------------------
