After the Battle of Hogwarts, balance had been restored to the wizarding world and Voldermort had perished just like the prophecy foretold--by the hand of the only wizard to have ever been able to defeat him, Harry Potter. Voldermort's followers either perished in the battle by the hands of the order or were subjectively arrested and placed in Azkaban to waste away for the rest of their years. Nineteen years later, the children who had fought at the Battle of Hogwarts have finally come of age to join Hogwarts themselves, and the world--though peaceful--is beginning to become upset again.

Coming from the little girl’s mouth, the sudden, unexpected word almost sounded like a curse. In fact, to her, it was. She yelled after the owl as it flew out the window, a familiar slender length of wood in his talons. Her wand; he had watched her pointing it carelessly out the window, and took little time in slipping the item from her grip. The pygmy owl headed out into the distance; his sharp sights set upon the forest.
With scarcely a thought to the conditions and consequences of entering the forest, Sera hopped from the windowsill, hitting the ground running. At a full sprint she exited the common room, and subsequently, the castle, making her way towards the looming tree line.
Her feet carried her further and further, until she was sure she could run no more. Her steps turned into weighted plods, her breath coming in quick, tiny gasps. “Fane!”
She continued her search, calling his name softly, fear and unfamiliarity setting in. [/blockquote][/blockquote][/ul]

There was not a lot of time left in the day for exploring, which was what Kaste enjoyed doing the most. It had ever amazed him that despite living in the same place his whole life there was always something new to discover; whether that was an unexplored path, a type of bug that he had never seen, or a new family of birds that had made residence in the trees above.
He both loved and hated this time of year. The leaves were changing, which was always beautiful, and different creatures made their appearances earlier in the evening. But it was the sun's early descent that made him want for the days of spring. He liked autumn itself, but... As it was the herald of winter, he would have preferred spring.
Kaste was so used to the elements that he was hardly covered at the chest at all. He did, however, wear gloves that made holding onto his bow a bit more comfortable. He didn't anticipate any danger in the forest right now but those creatures that did mean harm were normally more active by moonlight, and the lack of it. He looked up through the trees that shut out much of the light. Perhaps a day like today was one that he had been waiting for. The day when he would emerge again from the forest and put himself at risk of attack by students and staff of Hogwarts.
He did not get far toward his goal when he heard quickened footsteps. He drew an arrow out and held it against the string loosely. He would never fire any weapon without knowing what it was that was approaching, and even if it were enemy he would hesitate... But he didn't feel, somehow, that there was any danger to consider in the first place. His suspicions were confirmed when he heard a child's voice, calling for something... For a moment he thought that the name being called was 'Bane'.
Wondering why in the world a child of Hogwarts would be calling for Bane, Kaste began heading that way. He hoped that the school wasn't in danger and needing protection from the centaur colony. Not that they wouldn't serve if they were needed. A lot of things had changed between the centaurs and the humans since the Battle of Hogwarts, and while they wouldn't normally associate with each other, there was no doubting that they were allies at need.
Coming a bit closer though, he noticed that the name was instead 'Fane'. He finally spotted the young girl between some trees. He didn't want to alarm her, so he stayed a little away from her when first he spoke, but within her sight if she only turned.
“Hello there. Are you lost, or have you come to this forest for a purpose?” His voice was very soft, but it perhaps had a strange feel to it, mingling with a sudden gust of wind.

Seraphina grew more and more concerned and confused as time went on. Surely Fane would have returned with her wand, as he did every time, but she knew she couldn’t risk the small creature dropping his relatively unwieldy cargo. Still a child, she continued stubbornly, refusing the resign herself to failure, when she had already come this far; gotten this deep into the forest.
Pushing the bubbling fear aside, Sera reached upwards, wrapping her small, pale hand around a tree branch. Perhaps a higher vantage point would aid her. Summoning strength from her core, Sera pulled herself up one, two, three branches, before continuing her calls for the owl.
She spent what seemed like ages in the tree, finally admitting defeat. As she dismounted the branches, lowering herself to the ground, the young Romanian could not help but worry. How was she to know which path would lead her back to the castle?
As soon as her dainty feet had reached the earth, Seraphina spun around, a blur of blonde and blue, in search of the voice that had sounded from within the trees. The voice was soft, seemingly in a dance with the Autumn wind; she could not be sure that she had actually heard it.
Much to her surprise, relief, as well as fear, there was something- someone- behind her. A creature she had never before seen in her life, even after having spent weeks on end with her mother. The man-steed before her was a wondrous sight, and Sera stared, frozen in slight terror. Would he hurt her if she did not answer properly?
She did not know, neither his intentions, nor where her voice came, as she answered quietly, honestly. “I came to find something. My wand. It is lost somewhere in this forest, and now, I too am lost.”
The truth of her situation had come crashing down, and she could not help but frown through her words, the voice of her thoughts beginning to sound mournful. Would she be lost forever?[/blockquote][/blockquote][/ul]

Kaste was feeling just a little apprehensive. Despite his occasional attempts to leave the forest, he had never found a human that was friendly and brave enough to engage in conversation with him. He didn't want to scar anyone for life, either, and make them not want to come to the forest ever again. It would be even worse to contribute to a fear of forests in general. Of course, it genuinely was dangerous sometimes... With werewolves and the more fierce of his colony...
But the girl was speaking to him now. He could tell that she was afraid, but she was answering his question regardless. His expression softened a little bit and he came only a few steps nearer, his hooves crushing some early fallen leaves.
“You've lost your wand?” he repeated, looking a little confused. The statement didn't make sense to him. As far as he knew, wands were only pieces of wood. How had she lost it in the forest? Then he thought she must have been walking through the forest and dropped it. With all the other twigs, it would be impossible to find. Like a needle in a hay stack he might have said, had he been familiar with the expression. “...Where did you see it last?”
He put the bow away in case it should be causing her distress, then the reassuring smile crept back to his face. “Don't you worry, young lady. I know my way out of this forest, if you would let me lead you. Though I suppose you can't go anywhere without your wand.” Wizards did just about everything with them, he knew. How odd it would be to trust one's life to a tool like that.
Remembering his manners at the last moment he bowed his head a bit. “My name is Kaste, of the colony of centaurs that reside in the forest. We don't see your kind here very often. But I don't imagine that you would come here if not for your lost property...” He wondered if he should take advantage of the time that she was here to ask questions, or if she would be too afraid to answer. Finding her wand and getting her to safety was the first priority in his mind, but he couldn't help but be curious.

PotterheadPisces: My wand (according to Pottermore) is Vine wood with a unicorn hair core, ten inches, and "slightly yielding flexibility." Probably not much of a surprise, the Pottermore house quiz put me in Hufflepuff, so the fact that I had this specific wand makes sense
