PERSONALITY Jay is a flirt, but he's also smart and quick-witted. Sarcasm is his first language and he uses it frequently, though despite his biting wit Jay is actually quite friendly. He loves to laugh and was raised to believe in equality. His father was a pure-blood whose familial line had a history of tolerance and good-will, traits that Jay also possesses. However his flirtatious nature sometimes gets in the way of his kindness. Being pansexual, he flirts with anyone who catches his attention and some who don't. It is more or less his way of communicating.

Becoming a father has not changed his flirtatious nature, but it did bring out the protective and loving nature within him. Jay dotes on his daughter and loves her more than anything else in the world. When he first adopted her she was all that he focused on, often derailing classes to talk about Layla and show off pictures.

HISTORY The only son of Nathaniel and Karen Mustang, James was born in Scotland but was raised in Los Angeles, California. His father married his mother in a lavish ceremony a year before Jay and his sister were born. The two siblings were raised knowing that Jay would inherit the company, while Nathaniel was extremely accepting he still firmly believed in having a male successor.

Having a relatively strong moral compass was never a hindrance to Jay. He always did what he felt was right, but often his ends justified the means, at least in his mind. While he is flirtatious, Jay still maintains the ability to be chivalrous and romantic, even though he gets awkward and nervous on dates - especially first ones.

Jay had a very easy life, comfortable and happy. His parents always supported him and he never wanted for anything. When he was placed in Gryffindor House his first year of Hogwarts, his parents were nothing but proud. He never liked to talk about his home life because quite frankly it was boring and others had so much more to talk about. While he really didn't like to talk about himself, Jay loved to hear what others had to say.

During the war, Jay got into a little bit of trouble. He was being held captive at some stronghold for death eaters when the order rushed in and saved him. All of the death eaters present were killed in that fight, but as they were leaving, Jay heard the sound of a baby crying. He rushed to find the child, and realized that his friends had killed her parents. As soon as he laid eyes on the baby, he knew he had to help her. At first he tried to give her to an orphanage, but so many children were orphaned during the war that the orphanages that he tried were over capacity as it was.

Eventually he decided to adopt Layla (her name had been written on the headboard of her crib when he found her). Because of the chaos that emerged from the war, it was easy for Jay to adopt the baby girl, and she soon became Layla Katherine Mustang. Jay doted on his daughter, and she wanted for nothing. Soon, Layla became his whole world.

RP EXPERIENCE? About five or six years... give or take a few months.
RP SAMPLE. ’Today is the worst day of my life,’ Jay thought grimly as he walked around his house like a zombie. But it wasn’t just a terrible day. Jay was terrified, absolutely and completely petrified. The world was coming to an end and all was going to be lost. But even as he thought this, he smiled at Layla’s sleeping form. The ten-year-old was going to be starting Hogwarts today, and that was why Jay was so scared. Brushing some of her hair out of her face, his smile became soft, and he felt tears pricking at his eyes. ’My little girl is growing up!’ Holding back his tears, he shook his daughter awake, still smiling at her. “Sweetheart, you should get up, you wouldn’t want to miss the train!” He laughed as she groggily shook her head and attempted to get up. Finally, she rolled out of bed and kicked Jay out of the room while she got dressed.

Walking down his stairs to the kitchen, Jay felt a strange pain in his heart. A feeling he soon realized was the pain of his daughter growing up, and him not wanting to let her go. Once he reached the kitchen, Jay had himself a good cry, hoping that Layla wouldn’t hear him. He smiled through his tears, as he held a picture of baby Layla. Though he’d never tell her, Jay was extremely proud of his daughter, and didn’t care what House she was sorted into. (He did secretly hope that it was Gryffindor though.) As he heard her come down the stairs, Jay wiped his tears and proceeded to start making her breakfast. He had become quite the chef while he wasn’t living at his parents house, and refused to let the house elves do the work today. ‘Today is special.’ He thought, turning to Layla to present her with food.
