The strong, disturbing scent of iron stopped the dragon tamer in his tracks immediately upon entering the house. There was no source of light present in the house. It was almost eerily silent. Edward's brown eyes narrowed slightly. Something wasn't right, and that bothered him greatly.
He reached into his pocket, and drew out his wand. " Lumos." the single word was quietly uttered underneath his breath, almost instantly light flew to the tip of his wand, illuminating his surroundings. A frown marred his lips, as he could see that there was nothing out of place in the room that he was currently in.
He shook his head, and continued to look around the house, frowning as the scent of iron seemed to grow stronger and stronger with every room that he seemed to enter. Finally, he stopped infront of the family room, frowning. The scent was almost unbearingly strong at this point. For an unknown reason, dread seemed to fill the pitts of his stomach. A nagging voice at the back of his head warned that he would not like the sight that awaited him in the room ahead. Edward scoffed, and pushed the voice into the back of his mind.
Filled with determination, Edward made his way into the room, freezing when he saw what the source of that smell was, and almost dropping his wand out of shock. He wished he would have listened to the warning.
Lying on the floor, in a growing pile of his own blood, was none other then his baby brother. In his right shoulder, there was a long jagged piece of glass that was pierced deeply into his shoulder, blood was gushing out of the wound, falling around the glass and onto both his clothing and the floor. His left arm was twisted, and bent at an unnatural angle, obviously broken, and his wand lie a few centimeters away from his hand, broken neatly into four even pieces. His clothes were torn, and scratches littered his face, and arms and that was only the damage that Edward could see.
His stomach dropped, and he felt bile rise to the back of his throat. His body trembled as he slowly made his way to the battered form of his brother, and dropped down to one knee. He reached out to touch him, hesitated and ultimately decided against it. He stared, and stared at the body, silently praying that this was some sort of joke.
" Xayden. If this is supposed to be some kind of joke, I swear I'm going kick your ass."His voice shook as he spoke, and after he got absolutely no response from the boy, his eyes grew misty. He reached over, and gently brushed the boy's soft hair out of his face. His eyes were closed, and his face looked peaceful as if he was sleeping, as if he wasn't in any sort of pain. Edward shook his head, and continued to stroke the boy's hair.
He would stay like this for a few quiet moments, until a pair of footsteps comming towards the room would catch his attention. Startled, Edward immediately stood with his wand raised, ready to take on any intruder. Ready to protect his brother. When his eyes landed on the person however, it was an entirely different story. His heart became filled with hatred, and rage. His eyes narrowed into a glare. How could he of all people had done this to Xayden.
The person standing there was none other then his brother's lover, a young boy from Finland that his brother had once called Mattie. The boy's skin, clothes, and hair were stained with blood yet there wasn't a single scratch on him. It was Xayden's blood that he was covered in.
An emotionless look was on the boy's face as he stood there observing him. Blood dripped down his face, and he just reached up and whiped it off as if it was something as simple as water. After a moment, a smile worked its way onto Matthias's face, and a laugh passed his lips.
"Xayden wore blue so often that I got tired of seeing it on him, So I decided to cover him anothe color. Don't you think he looks much better in red?"
The boy's words sickened him to his core. He had done this after all, and not only that but he had actually gotten some sort of sick amusement out of the whole ordeal. What kind of person was he? He was so lost in his thoughts that he almost didn't notice that the boy had his wand out and pointed at him. Almost.
"Crucio."
Edward immediately raised his wand, and countered with the shielding charm, causing Matthias's curse to ricochet off of Edward's barrier and hit a nearby wall, causing a large hole to form in the wall. This was only the beginning however, and the two wizards began their fight. Curses and protection spells were shouted, and deflected. This would go on for a few moments before a particularly strong disarming charm was cast by Edward, managing to not only disarm him, but send him flying back into a while, knocking him out.
Edward wasted no time after, he grabbed his brother and held him close, his mind focused on the entrance to St.Mungos. With a loud cracking noise, the two were out of the home, and after a few moments were in front of Edward's desired location. Silently praying that the apparation didn't hurt Xayden anymore he rushed into the hospital. Xayden was taken immediately from him, and rushed away into critical care. Edward was forced to wait in the waiting quarters, covered in the blood of his baby brother.
It would be a total of two hours before his father, or Maung would arrive. They had seen the large amount of blood and had figured that one of them had taken the injured one to the hospital. Matthias had no longer been there when the two had arrived home. After their arrival, another three hours would have passed before they would be allowed to actually see Xayden.
Upon seeing Xayden, Edward's heart broke. Xayden's skin had lost his normal healthy tanned color and was now frighteningly pale. He had bandages all over his arms. His broken arm had been healed, and was now resting limply by his side. He looked so weak, and delicate, and small. For an instant, Edward swore that he could see a much younger Xayden in that bed in place of his normal self. He stepped forward and walked over to the chair by Xayden's bedside, and sat down in it. He took his brother's pale limp hand into his own, and ran his thumb gently over the skin.
" Xayden. " He was not deterred by the fact that received no response from the younger male, and continued speaking.
" I swear on our shared blood. That you will never hurt like this again. So please forgive me."
For allowing you to get hurt.
For taking so long to get you here.
For not being there to protect you from that little bastard.
Please....
" Forgive Me."
