The professor sat in the middle of his empty classroom right infront of the piano that the headmistress had provided for him. His brilliant green eyes were closed in thought, his fingers resting on the keys in an unmoving position. He looked much like a statue, completely still except for the steady rising and falling of his chest.

He remained like that for a few silent moments, before his fingers started to move. His fingers pressed down on the keys with tender, yet somehow firm movements. The result was almost breathtaking. Beautiful music emmited from the piano, each key and note melding with the ones before them, creating a beautiful, passionate and alluring melody. The once silent air was now filled with a beautiful song. Erik's song.

A faint smile was present on the man's face as he let the music consume his very being. His eyes opened the slightest bit, revealing dazed green eyes. After a few moments, Erik's smile turned into a smirk as his fingers began to move faster, leading the song that he had originally been playing into a completely different one. One much darker, and one that could very easily be described as a song of seduction.


Faster, and faster Erik's fingers moved and the notes of the song immediately followed after clinging to their movements as he gave their song life. The soft song that could have once been compared to a lullaby had now become something completely different. The tempo had quickened, and the gentleness that was previously present was now gone. While the piece was still beautiful, it was also much darker. One could hear, and almost even feel the emotion that the man placed into every note he played. There was that same passion that had been present in the previous song. Yet there was also a sort of seductive energy this time around, as if Erik was trying to purposely ensnare whoever might be listening in on him.

As beautiful as his piano playing had been; it would almost seem petty when the man would open his mouth, and begin to sing along with the seductive new melody.

" I have brought you,that our passions may fuse and merge in your mind you've already succumbed to me, dropped all defenses, completely succumbed to me, now you are here with me
no second thoughts, you've decided. Decided. "

His voice started off quiet, yet still had an amazing amount of power behind it that one wouldn't believe evem exsisted unless they heard it for themselves. Erik paused for a moment, listening to the echo that filled the air before continuing on.

"Past the point of no return, no backward glances.
Our games of make-believe are at an end. Past all thought of if or when,no use resisting,abandon thought and let the dream descend."

His voice was very deep and powerful, yet he was still able to hit the higher and louder notes with what seemed to be little to no effort. His voice grew husky, and even deeper as he emphasized on certain words in the song. His eyes grew slightly darker in shade, dark emotions clearly present in his eyes as he continued on.

"What raging FIRE shall flood the soul, what rich desire unlocks it's door, what sweet seduction lies before us?

Past the point of no return,The final threshold.What warm unspoken secrets will we learn, beyond the point of no return..."


His eyes closed again as he finished the last word of his part of the song. He felt the familiar rush of adrenaline, and excitement run through his veins. The pleasant feelings soon faded much to his utter displeasure, and he released a deep sigh, and a groan of slight disappointment as realization struck him.


He had been a little too loud while practicing, much to his embarassment. It had been a while since he had touched a piano, much less sang anything, and he had let the rush of the music sweep him away. He could only hope that by some miracle, no one had heard him.

She was not a girl to crush nor a girl who was after any particular boy at the moment (except one who was clearly gay unfortunately; she could tease him all the day long wishing he would revert for her), but Gene was female and in her own way craved a connection. She was, unlike most girls however, craving something far deeper, not just the physical but someone who could reach out and stir her from a distance. get into her mind. Sure, that might take a Slytherin manipulating her to get anywhere, but she did crave it though she tried to pretend she did not. After all, half the boys her age smelled of clothes worn many times inside out to make them last a few more days and who wanted to dream about that?

Wasting time, Gene had been making her way down through the hallways when she first heard the piano notes floating from down here. Approaching quietly her heart had skipped a beat when she remembered whose classroom this was; the closest to "hunk" category that any of her teachers got near. Ever since the first class with Professor Daae she had been wildly trying to think of a way to cause his shirt to be off for a class, to no avail. There was no way she was going to create an accident in which it would happen without being in major trouble and that was too far for Gene. More then likely he would know a spell for getting around what ever she managed, shame of it all.

Creeping up to his doorway, she stood there for a full minute before he started singing, imagining what he must look like. She could imagine him, eyes closed, swaying back and forth as he threw himself into his music playing some romantic song just for her... And when he started singing she nearly gasped, biting her tongue as she listened, her ears taking in every sound and vibrato. Without moving her feet, she moved her body sideways so her face slid into looking half into the room, one eye able to see into the room the rest of her hidden. Feasting her eyes on her professor, her breathing increased as she watched and listened, nearly closing her eyes on the line "raging fire" which caused her to lean against the doorway for support.

Damn. Now that was awesome.

As he finished and made a sad sound, as if disappointed the music was finished, she froze watching him, unable to bring herself to move away from the door, but not willing to let herself be seen either. She knew there were rules about adult- student interactions and she wasn't really interested in bedding a Professor at all (Most made her squirm in disgust at just their slanted eyes to begin with), but having an adult to fantasize about was better then a teenage boy with pimples who didn't know how to wear clean underwear. Some of the boys in her year really needed to take lessons from this man! She let out her breath slowly, afraid to move to fast or make much sound, but when he glanced towards the door she pulled back suddenly and then froze again out of sight, knowing she had blown her cover...

Anyone that knew Erik personally knew that music meant everything to the man. If asked, he would admit that music was his one and only talent without any hesitation, because he knew that it was true. It was his life, his one love, and pretty much everything else, and while he usually had no problems singing infront of others due to his musical background, it was different when he was alone.

When he was infront of his students, he was more reserved when he sang. The passion was still there, but he would not allow himself to be swept away by the beautiful melodies that the music provided. He had to uphold a professional image, and knew that if he had allowed himself to act around his students as he did alone, if he allowed himself to show them just how much the music that he played and sang truly affected him, that he would never be taken seriously by them again.

Erik paused in the middle of his thoughts, feeling a pair of eyes on his back. Though there was no sound other then the sounds that Erik himself was making; he knew that someone else was there with him. Silently watching, observing him from wherever it was that they hid.

His sharp green eyes had slowly made their way across the room, slowly keeping an eye out for any possible hiding places, frowning when he saw none. By chance his eyes happened to land on the doorway, and he froze when he saw a single eye watching him from that specific location. As soon as he saw it, it dissapered.

A single dark brow rose on the man's handsome face, and a small sigh left his lips and his hands went up to run through his hair. He was more than a bit embarassed that someone had managed to stumble across him as he was at his most vunerable point. Nevertheless, a small amount of pride surged through him. Secretly happy that someone had heard his true music, a small smile played out across his lips, and he called out to the mysterious person.

" I know that you know that you've been seen by me. You might as well reveal yourself." His voice wasn't angry, and held a tone of amusement in it. He paused for a moment, before speaking again in a quieter, much more serious voice.

" Did you enjoy listening to my music?"

There was the barest of chances that the Professor might not speak and give her a chance to escape. Not likely, mind you, but there was that chance and Gene crossed her mental fingers over it. She should have pulled back the moment he finished the song but she had been distracted thinking. But no, the Professor spoke out loud and Gene could feel her eyes roll up to the ceiling as she fought off embarrassment; no point in that, she had been caught fair and square. Running or denying it would be stupid and Genevieve was far from stupid!

Never timid, Gene straightened and then stepped into the doorway and strode in a few feet, stopping still more then half the room away. "Sorry, sir, I didn't come here to pry. I was just passing by, heard the music, and followed it down the hallway." And he was just as good looking out of class as in; maybe better as he wasn't wearing all the robes the teachers wore for class. He didn't look mad, which she was thankful for, but he did maybe look a tad sheepish as if he hadn't wanted anyone to hear. Damn. At his next question however she didn't feel any reason to hold back her personal reaction.

Her face brightened considerably as she took an involuntary step forward, her eyes showing her real interest in what he had just done. "Oh yes sir! It was beautiful and very full of emotion, like, you were playing really from the heart about someone specific. Can I ask who it was, sir?" Might as well go all out on a limb if anything. Maybe she would get lucky and he wasn't dating anyone right now and she could fangirl quietly to herself with that secret information. Her inner Gene kicked that thought hard and she sobered up a bit more.

"I can only play the scales and I think something called chopsticks which is a really freaking annoying piece if you don't mind me saying." She had actually used it to drive her mother into letting her stop lessons to be honest repeating it all the time. She tilted her head at him and looked curious for a moment. "If I can ask something else too, sir, if you can play like that, why are you just teaching? I bet you could make a lot of money playing like that..." She watched his face carefully, wondering if there was some history to that particular issue...

Erik stared down at the girl recognizing her from the music class that he taught. It had been one of students that had heard his music after all yet much to the man's surprise, there wasn't any sort of negative emotion present on her face. She didn't look creeped out, nor did she look like what he did was anything out of the normal.

" No need to apologize, Miss Burke. It was my fault. I was being entirely too loud in here, I'm surprised more students didn't gather along with you to listen in..." He left the end of his sentence open as a question, silently asking the girl if there had been any other students around or if she had been the only one there.

To say that he was surprised at the girl's reaction would have been a bit of an understatement. His eyes searched the girl's wearily looking for even the slightest form of mockery, only relaxing when he was sure that the girl was sincere. A small smirk formed on the man's lips as he felt pride surging through his form. It had been a long time since he had been complimented in any way, shape, or form.

" I don't have anyone special that I was playing that song for. That emotion came from experience. I used to be a musical actor, that song was sang by a character I once portrayed." He paused for a small moment, before shaking his head.

" You are not the only one who feels that way Miss Burke. It has been years and years since I have learned to play the piano, and I still cannot stand that piece. I do believe that it is one of music's few abominations." He paused, thinking carefully about how to answer the girl's next question.

" I chose to come and teach here because I grew bored living the life of an actor. I needed a new challenge, and I felt that this was the best choice for me." It was a simple answer for a simple question. One that gave an acceptable amount of information without giving too much away. Erik wasn't ready to give the real reason away. He never would be.

When he called her by name she did (to her utmost disgust at being so obvious about it) grin, thrilled he not only recognized her but remembered her name. Maybe she had stood out in class somehow, gotten his special favor-- her inner Gene smacked her across the face as she realized what she was acting like, one of those vapid girls back in her dorm room. She hesitated a long moment, just nodding in response before she answered his unasked question with a point of her own. "Just me, sir, but it seems to me if you didn't want anyone down here at all you would have just shut the door. Leaving it open says you wanted someone to hear maybe?" Oh yeah, and it was her she triumphed, without outwardly dancing the victory dance.

The knowledge that he had no one for himself at the moment she clung to, knowledge that was sure to keep her awake that night late into the morning hours. It was filled with both yes and no, excitement and disappointment as he was available, but she was still a student and it was like some forbidden love affair type stuff from the back of the fluff mags! Disappointed in a way as well that stuff like that was actually possible in the real world and that the other girls might be barely on the edge of some truth. "You sang like that on the stage and you gave it up?? Circe's Ti-- I mean, um, you must have been very popular sir." With the ladies she wanted to say but didn't.

Oh yeah, he looked like this, sang from his heart, and if she had been weaker willed her knees would be trembling right now. Genevieve felt the sweat break out on her forehead slightly, wondering what to say next, how could she stop looking like an idiot which she was sure she was. His comments about chopsticks made her chuckle softly, not giggle, before she realized that meant the one thing she could do on the piano was something he hated. That was certainly a moment of serious reflection, knowing she had stopped something which she could have possibly used to get private lessons on from him and it was something she had given up because it was too much like a chore, constant work on it.

Of course right now it didn't look like a chore at all...

Boredom. Well duh, if he was that good it was understandable that he would get bored at some point. "Yeah okay, boredom does kinda suck... See I never have that problem because I have four brothers at home. Trust me, sir, it's never dull around there, not for long." Her attitude (and the fact she didn't mention them being here too) showed they were much younger and active, especially when their older sister was around. "You could say I'm always looking for an escape from that. But you didn't have to go into-- i mean don't get me wrong, you're a great teacher, I really love the class" 'Oh Merlin's Bloody Balls Gene! Shut up! You're blabbering!' "but you could have started doing performances in clubs and bars right? Maybe joined an orchestra or something like that?"

Erik couldn't help but have a small bit of respect for his student after hearing her words. She had brought up a very good point, and had made a very good guess on what his intentions were. Yes they were wrong, but she still had managed to throw him off with how witty and reasonable that her words were. Logic and wit were not something that he would have expected from a girl her age, and he could honestly say that he was pleasantly surprised. Maybe he would have to start giving his students a bit more credit. Well, the girls at least anyway.


"I had originally come down here just to tune the piano. It seemed as if it was a bit off during class today. I didn't expect that I would actually be playing so I left the door open, yet once I had properly tuned the piano, I couldn't help myself and started playing. I forgot about the door completely." He had an almost sheepish expression, though he was glad it was only one student who had overheard him he was still a bit embarassed that he had been caught singing, and playing such a risqué number.

He paused at Genevieve's next question. Memories of singing infront of large audiences, people clapping, and shouting with joy that was received from hearing him sing, roses that were given to him by women, and men alike. Memories of signing items and taking pictures with fans swam through his mind, causing a ghost of a smile to appear on his face for a small moment. Then an image of a beautiful woman appeared in his head. A woman who he had once known. The woman that would never sing another note in her life again because of his failure. That was enough to whipe any hints of a smile completely off of his face. His face grew solem, and his eyes grew cold, the smallest bit of pain that was too stubborn to be hidden showed through for only a moment before fading away. He gave a very small smile to the girl, and quietly answered her.

" Yes I gave it up. It didn't feel right to continue on the path I was heading down on; so I left. I'm not sure weither or not I was popular with the people, but I do know that when I announced that I was quitting the show after my last performance ; I had to stay a lot later then usual because of the amount of people who wanted to meet me." There was no boasting or arrogance as he spoke. It was said as a simple fact, as if a situation like that was an everyday occurance for everybody.

He noticed the girl's downcast expression after his negative statement about the piece of music that she had brought up, and frowned. He hadn't intended to make her feel bad; he was just stating his honest opinion. He almost felt bad for the girl, if that was all she could do, all she had learned how to play, then how could she ever understand just how beautiful the instrument could really be? A sudden idea hit him, and he looked at the girl speaking quietly.

" If you would ever like to learn how to play something other than that dreadful piece, you may come to me after class, and I will teach you myself."It was a simple offer, one that she needn't feel obligated to take. It was his job as the professor to teach his students about the wonders of music. If they were willing to listen, and learn then Erik was willing to teach them all he knew.


" As for why I didn't start singing for clubs and bars, it's simple really. That was what I was doing before I got discovered and was recruited. The people at those places either are too drunk on alcohol or are talking over your music as if it is just an annoying noise. They do not appreciate nor do they respect music. Why would I go back to doing something like that when I could instead choose a position to teach students about my world. Students who want to know what I have to say and teach. It seemed like the better of the options so I took it. And I'm glad that you are enjoying it. I am trying to make the class a pleasant experience and I suppose that it is working. That is good to know."

The fact he seemed a bit surprised by her words made her feel good; there was nothing like surprising an adult, making them see you for who you were, not just another face in the crowd. Of course, he had another answer to her question, but adults always were tricky that way. What seemed cut and dried to you was often something they could talk their way out of easily. It annoyed her when people acted like eels, sliding out of what you thought were perfectly well-placed traps of the tongue. But she didn't want to add a negative element to the conversation and pulled back on that part, nodding and smiling as if relieved understanding that he wasn't an ego case.

Like half the people in the school seemed to be adult, or student.

And as he thought about her question she saw the smile turn into something more neutral, something maybe colder as well. So whatever had driven him from his past still bothered him; she had been right! There was something, though she doubted he would talk about it from the way he closed it off, refusing to admit out loud that there was another answer. A small part of her hoped she might be the answer he was looking for, that she could bring forth his love of -- quickly she squashed that blooming idiotic voice down inside, frowning on the outside slightly.

His words she heard but did not really take in consciously; maybe her mind was too busy with other thoughts or maybe just the sound of his voice was enough to tell her it sounded like a smoke screen. She nodded, slightly sadly on her face as she knew she was losing his attention and sought a way to get it back. She wanted to be more then just another student to him, stand out in the crowd but as to how to do it, she had no idea till his offer came about. That made her heart skip a beat; lessons. With him? Alone? Outside of class? Oh hell yes. Her smile came back like a moon on a cloudy night again exposed to the earth. "Really? You mean that? You're not just saying that to buy my silence?"

She gave him a questionable look, as if judging his honesty in the last bit. She could understand not having your art appreciated in a way, not that she had any art. She preferred to remain mostly quiet in the background except with her kickboxing which nearly no one at school knew anything about. "Well you've got a fan here at least. Does that offer of lessons start now?" She glanced from him to the piano and then back to him as if to say 'well while we're all here together...' Sitting next to him on the bench? Sure sounded like a good time to try out her nerves. If he said yes thought she was shutting the door first thing...

Erik noded in response to her question. " Yes really. No one should be stuck with the misfortune of only knowing how to play that piece.I am willing to teach you whatever it is that you wish to know And no. If I wanted to buy your silence, I would do it in a much different way. I would not offer my music, and my time for something as silly as that." Despite his words, he was pleased that the girl seemed happy again, and returned her smile.

He gestured to the piano bench with his free hand.

"If you would like them to then yes. Take a seat and I will go pick out the music for the lesson. Is there anything in particular that you would like to learn how to play? Any piece of music that you absolutely want to learn? If so then I will start you off with something similar but at a much more relaxed pace, and we will work our way up until you get to that level. Is that alright with you?"

Erik walked a few feet over to the left, to a shelf that held all of his collections of music. He waited patiently for the girl's answer to his question as his eyes quickly glanced over the various sheets, looking for the perfect piece to give her.

Pleased he wasn't trying to bribe her, though curious what he would use if he was, Genevieve nodded and followed his motion to walk to the piano bench. Sitting down on the piano bench she eyed the keys with the eye of someone used to long ridiculous practices with scales. The repetition might have helped eventually, but she had found it a pain in the arse. "Awesome..." Looking back at him she thought of closeness on a bench and bided her time, gritting her teeth at the thought of being told to play a chord about fifty bajillion times for practice. Her mother had thought it a good idea, but it was her father who had finally gotten her to show sense, yet another point in his favor.

"Um...Well there is one song I like a lot, though it's nothing fancy like you were playing. Do you know any Badly Drawn Boy?" She knew even as she said it that it was something he would never have had to play on a stage; it just wasn't that popular a group. A slight flush colored the top of her cheeks for a moment as she gamely continued on. "They have this song called 'Magic in the Air' that I've always kinda liked..." In fact it was a song she knew by heart though it was not long. She had heard it once many many years ago and her father had learned it at her begging and they had made up all kinds of extra verses (he wasn't a good singer), but she loved it still just the same.

It wasn't much maybe, but it proved to her that her father was not really a monster. Not down deep inside where it really counted.

Okay sure, she had cleaned his knives too many times not to know he was doing something bad and that it probably meant a lot of dead people, but now that her her mother had had the "talk" with her and she understood more of what he had been through, she had to be thankful her mother had been able to save him as much as she had! Horrible things had been done to him, young enough he could not control certain things he had urges for. At least he didn't perform where his family could see or hear, but she felt immensely protective over him and that song was one of their personal treasures, something just between them.

She didn't know what would be similar or easier to start with, but she was game. If she was going to learn to play only one song on this flipping instrument, she would damn well make sure it was one which meant something to her at least. "Is that okay? I know it's probably not what you get asked to play often..." Her face, semi-hopeful looked up to him in a mix of wary-trust and desire, though desire for what he surely would not know at this point thank goodness. Maybe a touch more of it was something to show her father someday, something special to bring that little light to his eyes she had learned to adore...

Erik's eyebrows furrowed as he tried to recall the song and the name of the musical group that the girl next to him had mentioned. He could very faintly recall the group that she had mentioned, and he immediately searched through his music sheets, making a noise of contentment when he found it. A few moments later, he made the noise again when he found the second piece that he was looking for, the piece that he would teach Genevieve for now.

" It will be fine; Forgive me if it isn't as smooth as my other piece. It has been a while since I have played anything other than the music I have sung on stage."

Making his way over to the piano bench, he sat down next to the girl and after glancing at the song for a brief moment, began to play the piece, quietly humming the lyrics as he played the piece. He played it fully without glancing at the music again, before stopping and looking at the girl. " That was the correct piece, right?" It had been a while since the man had played anything that could be considered even remotely modern, and the professor had wanted to be sure that the song she had given him was being played exactly how she remembered it.

While he was able to read music, and play it almost perfectly each and every time, he found that his music meant nothing if it could not bring out the emotions that lay deep inside the hearts of those that heard it. He gave a small smile when he recieved his answer, and turned to the piano, setting the other piece;( the one that he had chosen) down on the music stand.

" This is the piece that you will be learning during our lessons. I chose this one because while it is similar to the one that you have chosen to have me teach you, this one can be played either slowly or quickly. You will of course be starting off at the slower pace, as that one which be far easier to learn, and we will be working our way up until you are able to play it at the faster pace comfortably."

He turned to the piano, and began playing the song that he had chosen to teach the girl. When he finished, he glanced at the girl fully.

" Will that piece be alright for now? I know that they aren't exactly the same, but I figured that they were close enough to where once you managed to learn how to play along to this one, the other should be next to no problem for you."

Despite her earlier determination not to be obvious nor let him get under her skin enough she couldn't think straight, when he sat down next to her she felt a bit of a shock, as if this couldn't be really happening. While not quite touching, the idea of their legs right beside each other or worse, his arm brushing hers slightly as he reached out for the piano and she knew a flush up her face as she imagined what else was within easy reach. Her eyes took on a kind of glazed look as he played, but fortunately she retained enough of a clear mind not to lean into him as he played or grip his arm to keep herself steady.

As he played she watched his fingers in an effort to distract herself admiring how he might think he wasn't smooth, but he sounded just good to her. "That's it!" she exclaimed when he was done, a certain kind of excitement at knowing she might soon be able to play that sort of piece for her father. "Although I usually sang it a bit slower, but that's it," and then he began to play something different, a piece she did not know. When he finished playing, his eyes had immediately fallen onto the girl to observe the reaction that she had to his playing. A small, almost unnoticeable smile broke out at the excitement present in the girl's face. It brought the man great joy when he was able to make a student excited about his passion. Nodding at her words, he made a mental note to make sure to play the song slower in order to match it to how she sang it.

" If you sing it slower, than we shall make an effort to play it at the pace that you sing it. It will make the song all that much more special when you are able to play and sing the song at the same time."

When he played the other piece he could sense the girl's hesitance even without looking at her. It was obvious to him that she was nervous and while he had a feeling that she would be at first, he was determined to show her that playing the instrument was a lot then it seemed. All one needed to have to master it was determination, and passion; something that he was almost positive that the girl had in her, even if she didn't know it herself yet.

When she asked her question, Erik immediately turned away from the piano, focusing his attention completely on her. His sharp green eyes stared calmly into her dark ones.

" Yes, I do believe that you can sucessfully play this piece with time and effort. It will not be easy, but as long as you do not give up, I will be here to help and guide you Miss Burke." Pausing, he listened to the other's words before giving her another one of his rare smiles.

" I'm willing to be here for as long as it takes if you are willing to do the same."
