Smile for me (Luna)

It seemed like it was too good to be true returning to Hogwarts after all of this time. Warm green eyes glanced around at his surroundings, smiling as the snow brushed against his skin gently almost as if it were giving him a kiss. He felt as if he were in some sort of dream, as if he could wake up at any given moment. A few female students walked passed him, staring at him for a small moment, blushing and hurrying away when he looked and smiled at them.

Laughing, and pulling his fur-lined robes closer to his body as he did so, he turned and started walking off at a leisurely pace, continuing on his mini-exploration of Hogwarts. He was so happy that he was away from the cold rigidness of both the Durmstrang castle and his fellow classmates. He felt so free, and even though he knew that it was temporary, he was still so happy. He had the chance to relax, the chance to have fun, the chance to go to the ball.

The chance to see Luna again.

A big smile crossed his lips at the mere thought of his friend. It had been a long while since he had last seen the girl, and it had been even longer since they had last spoken to one another.He was really beginning to miss the frigid girl, and since he was here he figured that he might as well make an attempt to find her.

With his mind made up and his robes pulled close to his body; he set off around the school in search of his friend, his warm green eyes carefully observing each person that he passed as he did so -knowing that his friend was a Metamorphmagi and could easily change her form whenever she wanted had made him very perceptive over the years. He could very easily tell when the girl was in a disguise especially when he was able to look into her eyes-

So when he couldn't seem to find her he was immensely disappointed. He knew that Hogwarts was a very big school, and he knew that the number of students present had been tripled due to the Triwizarding tournament but he had still believed that he stood a chance when it came to finding her.

Wandering around the school grounds with his spirits slightly crushed, he kept on walking until he came across a small snowy area next to the lake. There stood a single, large tree that had been stained white from the falling snow. Underneath that tree stood s single person. A girl. When Donnivan's eyes landed on her they widened to an almost comical size before he ran over to her.

"Lu!!! Is that really you?!"

The world surrounding them had been tainted in a false innocence. It had been tainted with the color that had been falling all around them, staining the world a pure white, and erasing any signs of the green that signified the life of nature. Some students chose to run around and play in the snow; while the others ran from the cold and into the warmth of the castle to either grab a warm drink in the Great Hall, or to go sit by the fireplace in their common rooms. There was one girl however, who stood out there, completely still and unmoving as her cold blue eyes glanced at the surrounding scenery with something akin to disdain.

" Try as I might, I have never been able to understand why you love the snow so much."

Her voice was just barely above a whisper yet it was filled with a certain emotion, a certain longing that was so poweful that even with years of faking indifference she could not hide it.

" After all, all it ever seems to bring is death. It takes the life away from the plants and flowers that you always used to tell me you loved, keeping them dead until the spring is kind enough to free them from their prison. It makes no sense that you would hold a fondness for it."

Then again, Luna could remember not understanding a lot of things that the boy had told her when he had been alive. He had been a very gentle boy with a kind heart, the type of boy that probably couldn't have hated something even if he had wanted to. He had been very much like Donnivan in that sense.

Donnivan. Dawn.

Her eyes softened the slightest bit at the thought of her childhood friend. It had been over a year since the two had last seen each other and even longer since they had even talked by letter. Though she supposed that the last bit had mostly been her fault, not that she'd ever go and admit it out loud but she had been suffering, and had cut herself off from everyone after he had died, no one had been spared from this, not even her twin.


Now that some time had passed and she had managed to heal for the most part, she did realize that she missed the cheery boy. He may have been able to annoy her like no other person could*, but she still considered him to be a friend of hers.

She was very surprised when she heard someone calling her not by her actual name, but by a shortened version of it which was something that even Artemis did not do when he called her by her name. Her head turned to the side slightly, her cool blue eyes glancing over her shoulder to see who it was that addressed her. She saw a large guy running over to her, his fur-lined robes flying out behind him as he ran. He had messy dark brown hair, and warm green eyes that were filled with nothing but excitement and happiness. She waited until he reached her with that big wide smile that she could always remember him having spread across his lips, before she spoke.

" Donnivan, I had no idea that you were coming here for the Triwizarding tournament. If I had, I would've been here on the night of your school's arrival."

She and Artemis had decided to skip out on the feast on that particular evening for multiple reasons, the biggest one being that she remembered Donnivan's description of his schoolmates and she did not want anyone from Durmstrang making Artemis into their temporary new target while they were at Hogwarts, and had been going to extra lengths to ensure that he was kept out of the eyes of the Durmstrang students.

" How have you been? It has been a while since we have last spoken, has it not?"

He could feel his entire world light up the second his friend had turned her gaze away from the tree, and turned to face him. He felt his breath slip away from his lungs when his warm green met her cold blue, and for that second he would swear that he had forgotten how to breathe properly. Merlin, she was absolutely beautiful. She always had been, even when they had been younger. He couldn't help but admire how she stood out amongst all of the snow, a sign of color, a sign of life amongst all of the cruel white death. Yet there was also something that bothered him about her. Her eyes and her features had hardened over the year that they had been apart. She put on a cold front, and yet even Donnivan could still see that she was sad. His heart began to beat harder, demanding that he go and make her happy. His heart urging him to go and make her smile that beautiful smile that he knew she had, he wanted to be the one to lighten up her life again.

He wanted to be the one to make her smile again. He wanted to be the one that she smiled at and he wanted her to allow him to hold her. He wanted to know all of he dreams, and her fears. He wanted to be the one to protect her. So many emotions ran through the man at that moment, but one overwhelmed all of the others. Love.

He was in love with Luna Demetriou, and he had been in love with her for a very long time.

If he thought back to when they had been children, he could always remember being attached to her. He had always wanted to impress her in any way that he could. He could remember heavily disliking her twin, because of the fact that he would always manage to steal her attention from him. It wasn't just him either, he had grown up always having different people stealing the young woman from him. Even now, he was able to notice that there were others that were around her, wanting to steal her smile for themselves. A wry smile made its way across his face. They could try their hardest to take her from him, they could fight and scream until their faces turned blue, but he would make sure to fight for her. She meant everything to him, she made him happy, and she made his world a better place just by existing. He would not give her up without one hell of a fight.

He was torn from his thoughts when she spoke to him, and he immediately placed his normal cheery smile on his face as he listened to her speak, giving him an apology about not being there at the introductory feast. A chuckle left his throat, and his hand moved forward, gently patting her head for an instant, his fingers gently running through her soft hair in an affectionate manner before pulling away.

" It's okay Lu. I figured that you and your brother wouldn't be there. I know how much you hate crowds. No need to apologize."

He smiled down at her for only a moment before his hands moved down to gently grip at her waist, gently tugging her into his form, and wrapping both of his arms around her in a gentle embrace. His head moved down, his cheek pressing softly against the top of her head, and he smiled. It felt so right, so natural to hold her like this in his arms after so long. It felt almost as if he were meant to hold her, as if she was made specifically for him, and now that he had a taste of what it was like to hold her, he wasn't sure that he ever wanted to let her go.

" It's been over a year since we last saw each other, and even longer then that since we've written to each other. I've been good but I missed you, Lu."

Luna stared ahead blankly through all of the affection, all of the love that she was given by her childhood friend. It was obvious to anyone with eyes even to someone as seemingly oblivious as herself, that he loved her. He showed her that with all of his words, all of his actions. Almost everything that he did around her held that double meaning, how could she not notice that?

Her eyes stared dully up at the boy searching, and contemplating. Donnivan was gentle, and kind. Strong, and funny. Handsome, and witty. He showered her with affection, in both public and private places. He loved her unconditionally, she could see that in his smile, in his gaze. Despite this, the young woman felt absolutely nothing towards the other male that would signify that she herself held similar emotions for him. To her, he was nothing more then a friend.

Somewhere in the depths of her mind as she looked up into those warm and loving green eyes, she wondered if her heart was too cold to allow her to ever feel any type of affection, to feel love for someone that was not of the platonic sort. How could she feel absolutely nothing as she was looked at so lovingly? How could she feel nothing as she was pulled into those arms, into such a loving and gentle embrace?

Her icy blue eyes closed for a second, and she tried to search herself, tried to feel something, anything. She did not want to break the heart of her childhood friend, yet she was not cruel enough to pretend that she loved him when she did not. Frustration built up inside of the girl, how was it that she had been able to feel things back in the past, back when Kaoru had been the one to hold her in the very same way that Donnivan was currently holding her.

Kaoru.

The very though of his name was enough to make her cold heart start beating rapidly. A small blush had worked it's way on her face, and for the first time since he had died, she had began to feel flustered. With her eyes closed, it was almost too easy to pretend that the one holding her was none other then Kaoru himself.

It was a thought that was almost too tempting to the woman, and it took all of her willpower not to do so. Her eyes flew open, and a frown pulled at her lips. She would not do that to Donnivan. She would not play with his emotions like that. He was her friend. He was important to her, she would rather die then cause him that sort of pain. She would not resort to using him as an imitation. She was better then that, and she felt sick with herself for even allowing the idea to enter her mind.

It was with great difficulty and a heavy heart that her hands moved from lying limp at her side, and moved up to rest on Donnivan's strong chest, before pushing him away from her form. Her eyes were cold, and emotionless as always, even as she stared up into his hurt green eyes. There were often times in which she wished that she could return to the days where she had been a simple child, playing happily by Donnivan, and Artemis's side.

She wished that she could be anywhere but here, hurting the one that she cared for almost as much as she would a brother. Fate really was cruel.

Her eyes glanced at anywhere but Donnivan's face, and her face was absolutely expressionless. She was cruel, and bad and just about every single bad trait that could ever exist in a person seemed to exist in her in that particular moment as she answered his previous statements, acting as if he had never hugged her.

" Yes. We hate crowds. It just means that there are more people to judge us."

She paused for a moment, before speaking again calmly. Her form was tense, and it was obvious that she was uncomfortable about this subject.

" I am truly sorry about that. Things have been....difficult....as of late. I know that it is no excuse for not answering your letters, and I assure you that when you leave I will do my best to keep in touch with you this time."

She would not ignore her friend, or shut him out of her life anymore. She knew that at the very least, she owed him that much. While she could not return his affections, she could be the best friend that he could ever have.

" Have you begun refamiliarizing yourself with Hogwarts yet, or did you come to find me right when you got the chance?"

Knowing Donnivan, it was probably the later.

" If you would like, I can show you around again?"
