Transfiguration Class: Lesson One

Nikolai Dombrovski sat calmly at his desk his cold blue eyes staring coldly at the door that led to the entrance of his classroom. Class was to start soon, and he was starting to grow a little bit irritated at the lack of people that were present in his classroom almost positive that more students then not were going to end up showing up late using the excuse that it was their first day and that they did not know where they were going.

He did not know what was sadder, the fact that despite their multiple years at Hogwarts the students still used the same excuses that they used during their first year or the fact that they still expected him to believe them after all of the years of hearing the same excuses from the same people who did not expect him to call them out on it.

When students started walking in moments later he gestured to empty seats, wordlessly demanding that they take their seats immediately upon entering his classroom. He did not like giving them a chance to fool around once they entered his classroom. Once the students he began to speak, his cold eyes jumping from student to student as he spoke.

"Velcome to Transfiguration class. Vhile you are here you shall be learning and revieving for the N.E.V.T testing at the end of the year. Vhile you are in my class you shall be learning more then you have ever learned before. I assign a lot of home and classvork, but I assure you that shall be vell vorth it in the end. Now before ve start for real let us be having a little quiz. For five points each answer, name the four branches of Transfiguration and the three subtypes along vith a detailed description on each. Answers may be written or given orally. Whoever impresses me the most vith their answer shall vin the points for their house. Five extra points shall be given if the answer is given orally. You have ten minutes to think it over before I start taking answers. Using your textbook is not allowed. Begin."

Sitting in the dorm, Vincent finished the final polish on Octo's head and gave him a critical look. The octopod obediently turned around, letting him see all sides and Vin smiled, nodding. "Good job. That should hold you so stay out of any bottles from now on, here me? I'll tell you what's in one if your curious, doofus." Rat-tailing him with the towel, Vin walked to the door and picked up his bag tossing it over his shoulder. "Stay in the room. I'll be back after class unless Keela catches me."

He stepped out of the dorm and went to the common room, passing through on his way to the hallway where he turned and headed for the first set of stairs he came across. With care he should manage to get there just before class started; if he got messed with on the way he was not going o make it, but risks made it all the more interesting! Up a few floors, turned around a corner and weave through a bunch of students running in the other direction clearly pushing their luck. With a smirk he noted they parted around him as they recognized a badge on his chest and he reflected again that getting the Captain slot had helped him in more then one way.

Reaching the door he opened it and was surprised greatly to notice he was the only one there besides the Professor. He was surprised enough he stopped in the doorway and glanced at his watch before he realized the entire class was pushing the edge! Seeing the Professor's face, he quickly choose a seat and sat down, nodding respectfully at the man who chaired one of his best classes. When the man spoke, he waited maybe a minute to organize his thoughts and then raised his hand to give his answers. When the teacher nodded at him he stood and walked up to the man (clearly it wouldn't be a quiz unless you said your answers where no one else could hear them so he had to walk up, right?) saying softly "Thank you sir. There are four branches which are Conjurations, Transformations, Untransfigurations, and Vanishments."

"Conjuration is a branch which focuses on producing objects from thin air. This would include spells such as The Bird Conjuring Charm, Snake Summoning Spell, Orchideous, and Fiendfyre. Transformation focuses on deforming the physical features of an object. This would include spells such as Human Transfigurations, Switching Spells, Trans-Species Transfigurations, and Petrifications." Vincent swallowed briefly, but this was his best subject and the thing he was most interested in with magic, especially inanimate transfiguration so he knew the subject very well. "Untransfigurations are concerned with returning a transfigured object back to its original form. Reparifarge is one of the few spells used in Untransfigurations. Finally, Vanishments are concerned with erasing the existence of an object. This can include Evanesce, the Deboning spell, Brackium Emendo, and the Ossio Dispersimus spells."

Finished for the moment he looked the Professor in the eye and said "If you need me to elaborate on any of those sir just ask."

Arriving in the hallway about the same time as one of the Slytherins in his year, Jari got to the door only a few moments behind the bright-haired lad. Entering however he saw the man's irritation easily and frowned back knowing he was on time. Taking his time, he walked over to a seat and chose one right smack at the front, not settling on the nearest. When the man spoke, Fredrik looked at him and then pulled out a piece of paper and began writing. There was no way he was going to do an oral exam, something he could easily have slipped up and said the wrong words in showing he knew far too much about the subject.

Plus which, he knew the subject from personal use, not school work and he was sure he would not remember the supposed terms this school used since he went to a different one. There was, in fact, no way he could safely fake this subject without giving something away. Being put in such a position made him angry, but he stamped that down and pulled out his quill, preparing to write in the most general terms possible. On his paper he wrote:

Transfiguration is made up of four branches commonly accepted. These four are titled Transformation, Vanishing, Conjuring, and Untransfiguration. Untranisfiguration, which is the easiest to describe, is the undoing of any change in a transfigured item. It is considered a counter-charm. Vanishing is when an object is sent into non-being. You are simply making something un-exist. The trickiest of the four type is Conjuration and is the creating, or summoning, of an object. It is the complete opposite of Vanishing, and so is even harder to accomplish. Finally there is Transformation, the most basic of the branches. It is all transfigurations that change the appearance or being of an object. Transformation contains the easiest transfiguration spells and we studied that the most because of that.

That was safe enough. The spells themselves were where he expected problems so he took a bit longer to write up that part, knowing he wouldn't know the names they used here, just what he remembered them by. Cussing softly to himself, he continued writing. As he did so he noted one of his classmates was preferring to do it verbal and was up giving the answer quietly. He nodded; everyone had their own way of tackling any situation; Fredrik just preferred something he could look over and erase if it didn't look write. Verbal was not his cup of tea.
