To say that Ruby was annoyed that night as she sat alone in the Three Broomsticks, sipping at a butterbeer barely, would be a bit of an understatement. There was only one person who could normally upset her this much, and of course today had unfortunately turned out to be one of those days where their paths crossed. Ruby had been browsing the shops along the streets of Hogsmeade when she'd run into her sister Sapphire inside of Gladrags. To say that she'd been displeased to see her sister, would have again, been a great understatement. The 2 had never gotten along, almost from birth, but ever since 2 years ago, when their brother had gotten sick and come close to death, and when instead of staying by his side as Ruby had, Sapphire had clung instead to their father, which Onyx and Ruby had both considered a great betrayal, the dislike between the 2 sisters had grown. Usually Ruby made sure to avoid Sapphire as much as possible, and usually, thanks to the fact that they were both a year apart, and in different houses, avoiding her was easy. But today apparently, fate had other ideas, much to Ruby's chagrin.

Ruby would have been content to walk right past her, and ignore her, but much to her aggravation, Sapphire had had other ideas, and had tried to talk to her. And for the first time in a while, Ruby's nastier side had come out. After a short argument, mostly with Ruby on the offensive side, Ruby had pulled herself together and withdrawn. If they had been anywhere else, Ruby would not have let the matter go, but she didn't feel like being kicked out of the only clothing store in Hogsmeade over a family spat, and so, she took the high road, and walked away.

After the incident though, the good mood she'd been in before was mostly ruined, and she'd no longer really wanted to shop. What she really needed was a distraction, preferably in the male form, but that didn't seem to be looking like it was going to happen today, so she had decided to head over to The Three Broomsticks to grab a Butterbeer and try to get her mind off Sapphire. And so here she was, sipping a butterbeer, barely, and staring into space, still slightly annoyed, and incredibly bored out of her mind.

Unlike during the summer, Galen could sit at the bar in The Three Broomsticks without having to lift a finger to aid Grimly or his mother. They had a new employee, in fact, so they weren't in need of his help. Today he was just another customer...who happened to get his stuff for free. His presence was noted with a butterbeer, a sandwich, and a ruffle of his hair from his mother. The cook grumbled something indistinguishable and the new guy gave a passing smile, his kid too happy coloring to partake in the world around her. It was just a regular day at The Three Broomsticks.

From the mundane of the environment, Galen leaned back against the bar with the glass at his lips, Montgomerian blue eyes to the patrons of the inn who sat at their tables enclosed within their own little worlds. There were boisterous families recounting the day over dinner, starry eyed lovers fawning over desert, friends giggling in the corners, the wayward travelers gazing thoughtfully into the amber in their glasses, and...what's this? A young lady sat all by herself? Blond, blue eyes, gorgeous, lonely...one of Galen's illustrious types, if he would say so himself. There was a trace of annoyance in her eyes that he found to be quite endearing.

Making his way through the tables and laughter, he wore a subtle smirk, one of predetermination, and as he got closer, he began to realize that it was Ruby Holland, a fellow Slytherin and resident hottie. A very nice choice for company, Galen decided, as he slipped into the chair across from her.

"Ruby Holland," his brow rose as he looked her over, "odd seeing you here...at this hour...alone. You seem..." he peered at her, "troubled." His brows leveled then, lids lowered with a grin subtly tracing his lips. "Unless that's your drinking face."

Normally Ruby was fully aware of her surroundings, but today, right now, she was distracted. And therefore she didn't notice Galen Montgomery coming her way until he was slipping into the seat across from her. Turning her head slightly to look at him, her eyes ran over him in appreciation, now this was the kind of distraction she needed. Ruby didn't know Galen incredibly well, considering he was a seventh year, and she was a fifth, but she definitely knew of him, and to say she didn't find him incredibly attractive, honestly lust inducing, would be a bold faced lie. There weren't many males out there that Ruby was truly attracted to, though she flirted with many, so to say that Galen was one of the few she did in fact find desirable, said something.

A small smirk made its way to her face as he said her name, she liked hearing it coming from a male's lips. It was in fact one of her favorite things. He commented that it was odd seeing her here, at this hour, alone, and she knew exactly what he meant. He then stated that she looked troubled, unless the look she had was her drinking face, with a subtle grin forming. She pondered how to respond to that. Ruby wasn't one to divulge, or whine, about her problems to really anyone, except maybe Onyx, but that was a very different thing. "I had an encounter with someone that... I have a bad history with," she said, her voice at a neutral tone, "I will admit it was a bit upsetting, but nothing I couldn't handle." It was the truth. Sapphire was aggravating, disgusting, despicable, and upsetting, but Ruby could definitely handle her sister, at least for the most part. Besides a ruined mood, Ruby was otherwise just fine.

She paused a moment, shaking off the angry thoughts trying to enter her head again, it had been almost an hour, Sapphire was gone, it was over. Flashing him a small, playful smile, she spoke again. "As for my being alone," she said, "That isn't really my fault, apparently everyone remotely interesting decided to stay up at the castle tonight...well I thought they had at least, I seem to have been mistaken." She was sure the flirtacious tone in her voice was obvious, she had perfected it long ago. Question was, did he think he was one of the many she flirted with on a whim, or did he realize the thoughts going through her head right now while looking at him were far from innocent? And more importantly, what was he going to do about it?

His brow elevated curiously, though nearly not enough to look like he deeply cared if at all. Simple intrigue, one would call it, the kind that made the mind wander leisurely through a plethora of fabricated 'what ifs' and 'maybes'. She was of his house, a girl of means, and he was sure she didn't have any problem finding trouble. She herself said it was nothing she couldn't handle, indicating that she got in a bit of trouble quite often.

"A girl who can handle herself, huh? I must say...that's pretty sexy." It might have become a quality he admired in a woman as he was raised by such a woman himself. His mother was no joke and to cross her was a desperate plea for major damage and retribution. The thought made him chuckle to himself, fingers brushing back through his hair with a slow shake of his head. He loved the woman all the same for all the sacrifices she made and struggles she endured on his behalf.

"Mmmm..." he hummed, watching her watching him with clever words dripping from her lips like honey. She had caught his interest and he her's, twining each other up in a slow, purposeful dance of sultry gazes and unspoken desires. Galen knew exactly what he wanted, he just had to figure out the proper way of getting it. Women, he had come to learn, were a labyrinth of secrets, mysteries, boobie traps and treasures. Not all paths to the treasure were the same and not always so easily traveled.

"My mother owns the Inn," he stated, giving his reason for being here. "If I knew you visited, I'd come here more often. Can't have you sitting alone...not when you could be with me." A very straight forward guy, his smoldering gaze unfolded over her and he leaned back in his chair, curling a beckoning finger. "Come here," he said in an intimate tone, ready to take her into his arms and set her on his lap where he could better get a feel for her at a proximity where their words would be private. He figured they were at a table away from center attention, which was privacy enough in his books. If anyone happened to meaner over with a problem, he'd gladly fix it for them and send them on their way with Ruby comfortably cradled in his arms.
